Venezuelan eco-socialist coming to Griffith University 20th August!

The Venezuela Cuba Solidarity Club is pleased to announce a forum with Venezuelan student leader and environmentalist Heryck Rangel.

Venezuela shows a revolution can positively change the way society works. Working people can take power from the corporate elite and build an economic and political system that puts the environment before private greed. This national speaking tour of Venezuelan revolutionary student leader Heryck Rangel is an opportunity to hear about how the people of Venezuela are building a society based on cooperation, community control and social ownership of the country’s major resources.

Heryck Rangel is currently a student in political and administrative studies at the Central University of Venezuela. In 2005, together with a group of young people, he founded the Venezuelan Ecocitizens Movement ECOVIDA-an eco-socialist collective for which Rangel is currently the national coordinator. ECOVIDA performs projects and workshops for both the environment and society. Their fundamental goal is the formation of conscience among Venezuelans in political ecology. They promote democratic popular participation in ecological issues and social development.

Between 2006-07, Rangel was president of the Student Centre at the School of Political and Administrative Studies at the Central University of Venezuela. In 2008, he was part of the National Promotor Group for the establishment of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela Youth.

The forum will be held at 1pm in the EcoCentre, Nathan Campus on Thursday 20th August.
